bookbinding, repair and restoration

We provide a range of bookbinding services from fine,  leather editions, to hard-wearing library-rebinds, and archival services.  Our in-house binder also specializes in restoration and book repair.  All work is done by hand, using traditional techniques and our turn-of-the-century equipment.

We'd love to create a new blank journal for your writing, or bring your family heirloom back to life as a ready-to-read treasure.  Be in touch to learn more.

the foundry: custom typecasting

The Foundry, located within The Bindery, is a suite of historic Ludlow Typograph equipment, capable of casting custom slugs of type from molten metal.  We are home to one of the largest Ludlow font collections in the midwest, with over 200 drawers of Ludlow "mats" (the brass molds used to cast separate letters) in various faces, sizes, and ornaments.

We do limited custom casting jobs for letterpress shops, institutions and artisans near and far—plus fun typecasting workshops! Please reach out to learn more.

in-house retail

The Bindery's pending retail area will be a collaborative mix of previously published and rare books, in combination with our own members' work: writings, zines, chapbooks, new work, book art, blank books, etc!

All members will have the ability to sell work of their choosing and the retail section will be open to the general public during normal business hours.
