Coworking for creatives & makerspace for artisans
+ print
+ learn

We've saved Milwaukee's last remaining, traditional book bindery and transformed it for a new generation of creatives

Our 8,000 sq/ft facility houses writers studios, coworking & retail, plus an old school bindery, micro-press, & metal type foundry.

It's all here for you to use on a membership or rental basis.

We're opening fully this spring.

We're also here to repair your book, print your zine, publish your poems, host your class, or just manage the shared space, tools and knowledge for you to do it all on your own.

As an in-house collective of printers, typographers, writers, and narrative innovators, we want you to join us. We work with individuals as well as organizations of all sizes to help preserve a tangible art practice, while focusing on empowerment and justice through print and narrative forms.

Collaboration lies at the heart of The Bindery's mission. As a group of in-house creatives we work both together and individually to provide resources to the community, and foster a safe, diverse, and collectively-visioned workhub for Bindery members.

Tanekeya Word, founder of Black Women of Print, curates our rotating on site selection of print work by Black makers (plus partners on special programs centered on Black experience in the arts).

Milwaukee Zine Fest celebrates zines and DIY publishing through our annual event in partnership with Milwaukee Public Library. We also offer workshops and zine sales in-house all year long at The Bindery.

bearbear Creative is The Bindery's in-house risography partner. We work in tandem to create riso-zines, offer workshops, and print your vision as part of our joint Prints for Justice program.

Adam Beadel of Team Nerd Press is our in-house letterpress coordinator, helping us shape our indy publishing and print education efforts (all while training the next generation of diverse press masters).

Voyageur Book Shop maintains our in-house selection of books for sale focused on binding, print-work, and writing. Their main office is here on site... but go check out their full shop a block away!

Niche Book Bar graces the space with a rotating selection of books from members of The Black Authors' Collective and other Black writers. More great literature can be found over at their own shop!

We'd love to help bring your next project to life.

Please note our facility is not currently open regular hours due to extensive renovations and COVID-19. We are still taking service requests, membership inquiries, and future space reservations: please reach out!
